A day of joyful and collective disobedience to connect with yourself, your body and your community. This is one for the rebels, the weirdos, the dreamers, the punks, and those drawn to yoga but who struggle with rigid dogma or feeling like they fit in. We will allow ourselves to be imprecise, in play, in process, rather than problems we are trying to solve. Through this we start to develop a relationship with self built around trust, expression, and authenticity, rather than dominance, performance, or punishment.
This is the yoga of freedom and liberation, shared with great love and respect for it’s rich history and philosophy, and an eye for all the ways it has been appropriated to better serve capitalism.
The retreat includes:
- A deeper and immersive dive into accessible and expressive yoga
- Playful and rule-breaking yoga asana practice
- Exploring our understanding of self consent and inner listening
- Understanding the history and philosophy of yoga as liberation, and how imperialism, appropriation and commodification have sanitised and shaped contemporary yoga practice
- Using yoga’s many wonderful maps and systems to deepen our own experience of what it is to have a body
- Embodied creating, play, and messiness
- Radical Rest and Meditation (Restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra)
- A nourishing vegan lunch and delicious homemade cake
- A chance to connect with community

Accessibility Information:
Accessibility is at the heart of my work. The venue has one step on entry, but an alternative step free entrance is also available. There are 3 single use all gender toilets, including one that is wheelchair accessible. On street parking is available outside. A hearty vegan lunch and snacks will be provided but please let me know if you have any dietary requirements. Music is sometimes played in the background, and scents such as essential oils are used – however both can be omitted if they cause accessibility problems.
There is an additional ‘low sensory’ quiet room to be used at any point.
The practices are adaptable to different needs and bodies, but in general requires the ability to get up and down from the floor unaided, or with the help of a chair. But if you would not be able to do that, then please discuss this with Lou, as adaptations can be made, but just require a little more advanced notice and planning. You are very welcome to come and go, take breaks, skip out whatever you like – and people frequently do, as the group usually models a much celebrated disobedience throughout.
Covid Safety:
I continually recognise the need to keep our community safe from the spread of covid. There will be no more than 24 people in the venue . The Studio is well ventilated, and space will have been cleaned and ventilated before the retreat. Attendees are required to take a lateral flow test before attending and you are welcome to wear a mask when arriving or moving around in the venue, and during the retreat at any point.
